NOISE GUIDELINES

The objective of this guideline is

1.      To show awareness of our good neighbour policy particularly with respect to our landlord and also the other nearby residents.

2.       To establish a practical and workable standard of sound pressure for model aircraft operating at the SEMAC field and to ensure compliance with SEMAC requirements and our Town Planning Permit.

3.       To set maximum sound pressure limits for Radio Controlled plane operating at SEMAC field.

Guidelines

All aircraft operating at the SEMAC field shall operate with a sound pressure less than 93db when measured using the club sound meter positioned as shown in the diagram below.

The aircraft to be tested shall be suitably tethered or restrained on the ground surface to prevent movement located at the side of the runway or clear of any obstructions that may give incorrect sound pressure readings.

The first measured reading shall be taken with the sound measuring meter placed on tripod at a distance of 3 meters from the propeller and at right angles to the propeller centre line. The engine will be operating at full power.

The second measured reading shall be taken with the sound measuring meter placed on tripod at a distance of 3 meters directly behind the centre of the propeller. The engine will be operating at full power.

The higher of the two (2) sound pressures readings shall determine whether the aircraft noise contravenes SEMAC sound pressure limits.

Planes that record a sound pressure greater the 93 db will be restricted from flying until the pilot can demonstrate that the aircraft sound pressure readings have been reduced below the maximum limit set by the committee for SEMAC field.

Aircraft that any member suspects is producing excess noise should be reported to a committee member and may be required to undergo a sound pressure test in the manner described above.

This criterion is only pertaining to SEMAC field and may differ from club to club so you are advised to check with the club at which you are intending to fly. Other clubs and competitions may have differing requirements.
