GATES, LOCKS and ROAD RULES

Gate 1

• Gate 1 (the MX main gate) is normally only locked at weekends. If it is open, then go straight through.

• If it is chained then unlock the SEMAC (black) padlock and LOCK IT EXACTLY AS SHOWN BELOW once you have passed through. The silver lock belongs to MX. If the gate is not locked as shown you will deny entrance to MX staff.

• The gate must always be locked if MX are not on site to prevent vandalism or theft from their yard. The MX gates are heavy and the LH gate can drag in the ground. You may need to swing both gates open till you have room for your vehicle.

THE SPEED LIMIT IS 10 K.P.H FROM HERE ON.

This limit is imposed to reduce war and tear on the road. The club does not have funds to regularly resurface it and loss of access via the road would spell the end of SEMAC.

Once inside

Once you are through the gates drive up to the red scoria carpark in front of the huge shed to your left. You MUST turn left just before reaching the huge shed. Turn left immediately you are past any parked cars in the staff carpark in front and to the left of you.

NEVER drive straight ahead and enter the MX operational area. It is completely off limits to SEMAC. Only MX vehicles and MX staff in fluoro vests are permitted there. You are simply not visible from the cabin of the Volvo loaders which operate at speed at MX. Don't go into the MX area ‘cos you can be killed.

Getting to the field

Travel north on the scoria road which runs hard against the side of the shed.

At the end you need to be very careful rounding the hard right corner at the end of the shed as any vehicle leaving the SEMAC field coming in the opposite direction will not be visible until you have cleared the corner.

Road rules

If you get to the corner and meet a car travelling in the opposite direction the following rules apply:

• A vehicle leaving the field has right of way and the arriving vehicle must back up.

UNLESS

• One of the vehicles is towing a trailer in which case the other must back up.

UNLESS

• Both vehicles are towing trailers. In this case get out and have a civilised chat about who can most easily back up. You will need to agree between drivers the best way to resolve this. We cannot have any altercations on MX property if we are to keep our field and not lose the thousands of dollars we have invested there.

Gate 2

Turn right at the north end of the shed and travel east to Gate 2.

This gate is never locked but MUST ALWAYS BE KEPT CLOSED to keep any cattle which are permitted to graze in the paddock out of the MX yard.

Gate 3

This is the entrance to SEMAC area. If this gate is locked you will need to take the key from the keysafe on the gate to unlock the padlock. If you don’t know the keysafe password call the SEMAC President or the SEMAC Secretary. Gate 3 is kept shut at all times to keep the cattle from getting into the SEMAC field and crapping on our runways. This gate must be locked by the last person leaving the field at the end of each day. Spin the code to a random 4 letters after locking the gate, putting the key in the safe, and shutting it.
